Kendrick Sampson Launches BLD PWR Productions to Reimagine Hollywood and Create A Home for Creative Misfits
September 20, 2022– Today, actor and activist Kendrick Sampson (Insecure, Miss Juneteenth, How to Get Away with Murder, The Vampire Diaries) announces the launch of BLD PWR Productions (BPP) and the expansion of BLD PWR (bldpwr.com) from a social impact and advocacy initiative into an ecosystem. BLD PWR will host a preview launch event on Thursday, September 22 in Los Angeles, California.
“Since our inception in 2018, BLD PWR is still at the forefront of reimagining Hollywood. A large part of that work is producing short-form content with and for our partners, so it is an organic and necessary expansion to launch BLD PWR Productions, a production company to house our long-form content development and production,” says BLD PWR Co-Founder, Tia Oso.
Just as BLD PWR helped mobilize thousands of marchers in the streets and organized hundreds of industry leaders to sign the Hollywood For Black Lives letter, BLD PWR Productions will create content that shifts culture through radical imagination and storytelling.
“The days of begging for a seat are over. This is what building our own table looks like,” says BLD PWR Co-Founder, Kendrick Sampson. “We will continue to challenge those in power, but we recognize that it’s not Hollywood’s job to reimagine our future… we have always been experts at our own narratives and we are taking that power back.”
Led by Strategic Advisor D’Angela Proctor and Director of Development Taylor Jett, BPP is a community of misfits who are passionate about the work of radically reimagining, advocating for, and building the world we deserve through creative outlets. BPP is seeking and developing stories that center the magic and complexities of Black and Indigenous communities.
“BLD PWR is the home for storytellers who share a passion to bear truth, expand imagination and improve the lives of our communities,” says Proctor.
BPP prides itself on serving as social architects that shift culture by building community and producing content that is rooted in the love of everyday people. BPP is committed to producing content in all genres and for all platforms.
BPP is an extension of Sampson’s work on screen as illustrated in his commitment to being a part of nuanced and purposeful programming including HBO’s multi award-winning comedy series Insecure, acclaimed independent film Miss Juneteenth, ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, and The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, among many others. His impact stretches beyond Hollywood and into advocacy, social justice and mentorship initiatives.
Taylor Jett brings several years of experience from CAA, HBO’s LoveCraft Country and Netflix’s Original Series Content team and an equivalent passion to champion authentic and evocative storytelling. D’Angela Proctor serves as a Strategic Advisor and brings a wide array of talent to the team as a multi-award winning producer, C-Suite executive, and attorney who previously served as the CEO of Wayfarer Entertainment, Head of Production & Business Development of Codeblack Films, a Lionsgate Company, and Head of Original Programming at TV One.
